DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 2, 2011) NASCAR Director of Touring Series North America Richard Buck has announced the hiring of Jimmy Wilson to fill the position of series director for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

Wilson returns to the NASCAR family after working in timing and scoring for the company in the mid-1990s. He will oversee the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour officiating staff that includes first-year technical director Paul Deyo.

I am extremely honored and thankful for the opportunity NASCAR has given me to be a part of the NASCAR Touring Series, Wilson said. I look forward to my career with NASCAR and I am ready to go to work with the Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

In addition to his prior stint with NASCAR, Wilson, 35, has previously worked as an operations and series director for other racing organizations and brings more than a decade of experience in motorsports. His first race will be at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C., on July 1.

Wilson resides in Mooresville, N.C., with his wife, April, and will work out of the NASCAR Research & Development Center in Concord, N.C.

Wilson succeeds Sherry Clifton, who served in the same capacity during the 2009-10 seasons.
