BROWN BURIES THE FIELD
At Anderson Motor Speedway

(King, NC): Tim Brown is going to need to change his nickname. After Friday night's dominating performance Brown should drop the “The Rocket” handle and be known as “The Undertaker” because over the last 25 laps he buried the rest of the field in the “Circle K 125” at Anderson Motor Speedway.
While the field was a little short on cars, it wasn't short on excitement in the Modifieds return to upstate South Carolinas little gem of a track.
Burt Myers started things off, knocking down the Piedmont Racing Expo Pole Award in qualifying. Myers edged Brown for the top spot with Jeff Fultz, Spencer Davis, Danny Propst and Jason Myers close behind. Jimmy Wallace was the quickest of the “Mod Light” cars over Austin Thompson.
After qualifying the drivers headed up to the KOMA Unwind Relaxation Drink bus for a big meet & greet with the fans. At this point a big “thank you” should go to Anderson's promoter, Sylvia Porter, for allowing officials to move back the starting time for the racing action to allow the big crowd of fans to move through the autograph line.
After a couple of features for the local short track “warriors”, Burt Myers led the field to the green flag. Myers time at the point was short as Brown drove past him on lap bringing Davis along with him. Those two battled it out at the front as the remainder of the field settled in behind. A couple of single car spins and “Koma Kan” double field restarts allowed Davis to move to the point as Myers worked his way past Brown and Davis a few laps later. Some of the best action of the night came at the mid-point of the race as Myers and Brown battled door-to-door for several laps for the top spot with Myers earning the half-way leader bonus points by about three feet over Brown.
A single car spin by Davis allowed those cars who had not made their mandatory pit stop the chance to take on new Hoosier rubber and make adjustments under that caution. Brown took advantage of the caution to make several adjustments to his car including a right rear new tire and swapping of his left sides. Those adjustments made the difference as he dominated the last 40 laps of the race. Fultz, Myers and Bobby Sheffield gave it their best shot but were unable to chase Brown down as he cruised to the win.
If there was an “Iron Man” award, it would certainly go the “Hillbilly Racing” crew and young Spencer Davis. The team raced Thursday night at Thompson Motor Speedway in CT, drove all night and arrived in Anderson, SC just before practice. They made the necessary changes to the car, got in some practice and Davis drove it to an eighth place finish.
Full details for the event will be posted when scoring information is received. The PMSS scoring crew also had to pull an overnighter. After leaving the Anderson event, that team had to be in Meridian MS at 6:00 AM to set up for another event Saturday night.
